There is a chance I might be meeting Patti Smith at a house-warming party Sunday night...

Yes, you did read that correctly.

So with her on my mind i'd thought i'd write a post about why she's so amazing, and then if i meet her I can tell her to read by blog?! Or something like that.

Let's start with Horses:

I first came across her music as it was the soundtrack to this really dark film about someone's uncle, and a shed, and some landscape that looked like what I imagine the moors in Wuthering Heights to look like...and anyway the protagonist (a young girl) had a room with Patti posters everywhere, and she'd dance around it listening to Horses on vinyl and from then on, I wanted to be a Patti Smith fan.

Once, as an attempt to show my love for her I attended a fancy dress party, dressed up as Patti Smith which is harder than it sounds (also considering my inability to take fancy dress seriously). But I wore an androgynous top that I wrote "Fuck The Clock" on and 1 out of about 40 people appreciated it...

I began wearing white shirts because she does on the album cover of horses. As anyone will tell you, I wear white shirts a lot.

Patti is one of my infinite idols, she's painfully cool and wonderfully talented and once she was on Later Live...with Jools Holland at the age of about 50 wearing a man sized shirt and not a speck of make-up which if you ask me, is the epitome of cool. (Or at least someone who is seemingly comfortable in their own skin which is admirable in itself.)

And finally, When Doves Cry...Not sure about the video but the point is that this song is so powerful, her lyrics are poetry.

If I meet her on Sunday I'll probably behave the very opposite of what i've described her as, but then again maybe i've unknowingly become what I idolise about her, and we'll be friends, forever...
